John 12:12-29

"Death To Life"

Death is something that is inevitable. Many people are ready to go to Heaven, but no one is in a hurry to take that journey.   In the book of John, the twelfth chapter, Jesus is making his predestined entry into Jerusalem. The crowd was gathered to see the man that raised Lazarus from the dead, not realizing that he was there to raise them from the death of sin. Raising them to a life where they are no longer dead in sin and trespasses to a new life full of purpose and peace. Many people were in Jerusalem for the Passover celebration and some wanted to meet Jesus, so Philip and Andrew went to Jesus to tell him about the visitors. It was then that Jesus spoke beautifully about what his death really meant. He said “Unless a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit”.  We need to realize that once we die to self, we can bear fruit worthy of the kingdom of God. My mother used to prune her plants. She said that there is new growth underneath the dead leaves. She cut away the dead leaves so that the new ones could flourish. What’s dead in your life that is waiting to be pruned? Jesus said that if you love your life in this world you will lose it, but if you hate your life in this world you will keep it unto life eternal. He is simply asking “what’s important you?” Do you value things that will perish, or do you value Jesus, the one who died so that we can have life. Jesus died a horrible death so that we can live a victorious life. He says “for this cause came I unto this hour.” Jesus fulfilled the purpose for which he existed on this earth. What is your purpose today? Find it and stay focused on it until it is fulfilled. Jesus did it, and I’m so glad that he died so that I can live.

Lord God, I’m so thankful that you sent your only Son to this world to save a wretch like me.  I’m grateful that He fulfilled His purpose here on this earth and died so that I can have life.  I pray that you forgive me for my sins and strengthen me every day, so that I can serve you with all that I am.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
