Luke 21:34-37

Submitted by Sis. Carol Cook

Jesus spoke of His return and warned us to be alert and to pray always.  Yet, there are days when we spend the least amount of our time preparing for it.  Why as Christians are we so drawn to the distractions of the world?  The preparation of Jesus’ return is often the furthest from our mind but should be the closest to our heart.

If we spend most of our time thinking or worrying about life and getting so wrapped up in the cares of the world, we will be surprised and unprepared for His return.   Having a spiritual understanding helps us not to be overpowered by the things of the world.  It’s okay to keep watch on what’s happening, but we should not make it our primary focus.  We must focus on the return of Jesus by praying without ceasing and without excuses so that we are prepared.

Let us not be consumed by the temptations of the world or betrayed by our own corruptions. Serve Him always.  Expect His return, be ready to receive Him, and be prepared to welcome Him.

Dear Father,
I pray that we begin and end our day focusing on you, obeying your Word,
and living by your example, so that we may be found watchful for Jesus’ return.  May we prepare ourselves through prayer for what is coming in that troubling time and be found worthy by you.
In Jesus Name, Amen
