Hebrews 4:1-10

I find that the more I know about God's word, the more I want to know and the more I study, I find out that there is a lot that I do not know. Proverbs 3:5 is one of my favorite passages and it instructs us to "lean not unto our own understanding". I recently read a story about a sports superstar that went back to his old neighborhood and encouraged members of a middle school basketball team to believe in themselves and that just like him they too could find a way to have a better life. I could only think that during the times that the star himself was dodging bullets and fleeing gangs, that coming back to this life was the farthest from his mind. The drive to get out of a bad situation propelled him to work tirelessly on his game to not be committed to that life and city as an adult, but ultimately he has found himself back in his old hometown but in a different capacity and purpose.

In our scripture reading today the Jewish Christians of this time were being heavily persecuted and questions abound about their faith and who and what they believed. As "believers" we must always be reminded that the word says "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose." Jesus suffering, and even some of our trials, tribulations, valleys and storms... they are all part of God's plan. If we were all as obedient as Christ I could take the word "some" out of the previous statement as it pertains to man. But we know that only one perfect one has ever walked this earth in human form and that was Christ himself and still he had to suffer for the fulfilling of the scriptures.  Ultimately God's plan is that we would be as "believers", unified as one body and he would be glorified.

So, believers- keep the faith and remember it's all in God's plan.

Dear God,
I pray today that as believers we continue to hold strong in the promises that you have given to us and that our faith not waiver or be shaken by the storms of this world. May our light also shine such that those who do not yet believe will be drawn to you and receive this gift of salvation by a renewing of their hearts and minds.
In your Son Jesus name I pray, Amen
