“O GOD, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is...”

Have you ever been a foreigner in a strange land?  Imagine how Abraham felt as he traveled the path that God instructed him to follow on his way towards the promised land.  Imagine how Joseph felt as he sat in an Egyptian jail cell!  Imagine how Paul felt as he traveled throughout much of Greece in his attempts to spread the gospel.  That is how the Christian should feel about this earth.  Believers know that heaven is our real home, and that we are just “passing through” this world on our way to our heavenly destination.

If we are truly convicted by the Holy Spirit because of our faith in Jesus Christ, then we should have a thirst for God as David did!  Our thirst for Him will only grow stronger as we seek to know Him better through His Word.  Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh; so as we come to know the Word, the conviction of the Holy Spirit will cause us to diligently seek after Him.

Have you ever had a time when you were out of fellowship with God?  When we turn our backs to God and start living after earthly things, we cannot help but experience a longing to return to Godly living.  True believers cannot walk after the flesh for long, due to the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

One of my favorite songs has a line that says, “I am a Christian.  Do you know what that means?  It means I’m far from perfect; simply redeemed.”  Truly accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior will create a thirst and a hunger within you that can only be satisfied by seeking the joy of being in the shadow of His wings!  Let’s bless Him while we live and lift up our hands in His name!

Heavenly Father, we thank and praise You because You are God!  We thank You for the opportunity to satisfy our thirst for You by knowing You better through Your Son Jesus Christ.  Early will we seek after You.  Please uphold us with Your sweet spirit and don’t take Your joy from us.  Please allow us to experience the fullness of joy that comes in knowing You!  In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN
