Psalm 42

“Why. my soul, are you downcast?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” – Psalm 42:5, Psalm 42:11 and Psalm 43:5

Whenever the Bible says something three times in a row, it’s time to pay attention.  So this is a question worth asking our souls, when we find ourselves feeling down (for whatever reason): Why are we downcast?

Whatever the reason, no matter how legitimate, we need to look past it and remember that it is only temporary.  We will yet praise Him – for He is our Savior and our God, and He is worthy of our praise.  In fact, when we remember who He is and what He’s done for us, and start praising Him in spite of how we feel, before too long, we start to feel a little bit less downcast and a little more joyful.  So praise Him today – For He “forgave the iniquity of His people and covered all their sins.” (Psalm 85:2) – including yours!  Don’t let the natural inclinations of a downcast spirit imprison you in sorrow; instead, choose to walk in the joy of the Lord (it is your strength - Nehemiah 8:10), for He is the Truth – and “the Truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

Dear God,? I long for You.  I want to know You and Your ways.  My soul thirsts with to walk with You.  Like a basic need, I need Your presence in my life.  Only You can satisfy.
I ask this prayer in Your Son’s name, Amen.
