Isaiah 53

I’ve often been reminded to “never judge a book by its cover.” It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Earlier this year I attended my daughter’s track meet and they were preparing to run the 100m dash.  Needless to say, there was one runner who just stood out above the rest.  From her appearance she just didn’t necessarily seem to fit the part of a sprinter.  I immediately concluded that she would definitely finish the race in last place.  As a matter of fact, I kind of blocked her out and focused on the rest of the field of competitors.  However, when the gun sounded to start the race, the one I counted out left the field far behind and easily won the race.

Jesus had a similar experience.  He was judged and rejected because of His appearance.  To many He did not look the part of a King or Savior. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about His appearance. He was counted out as being the Savior.  However, I thank God for choosing the perfect Lamb for the sacrifice who won the race for us. He was beaten so we could be whole.  He was unjustly condemned and carried our weaknesses, sorrows and sins all the way to the cross. He did not complain or say a word because Jesus was in the race for all mankind. In fact, He won the race for us.  Our Savior is alive and with us today. (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV)  “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Dear God,
Today, I am grateful for you sending Jesus Christ as my Savior.  I thank You for allowing Jesus to endure the race to the end, so that I might have the right  to the tree of life.
In Jesus’ Name I Pray. Amen
