2 Corinthians 4:16-5:5

Submitted by Sis. Carol Cook

Since moving to Texas, it seems that I have continuously gone through some medical or health issue each year (sometimes two or three).  At times, my body may be filled with excruciating pain.  And though it gets tiring, I do not grow weary.  Some people advise me to sit down, take it easy, slow down, get rest, etc.  Somehow, it just never appeals to me to do those things.  In spite of what’s going on with my body, my desire to serve God and strengthen my intimate relationship with Him is so much greater than my physical afflictions.  That’s what keeps me going and gives me a joy that is sometimes indescribable.  How can I sit down on He who gives me breath and gave us His son?

Outwardly, our physical appearance may show that our bodies are broken, falling apart and letting us down, but inwardly God renews us each and every day by His mercy and through His grace.  Our bodies are mere temporary housings or “tents” that will age, breakdown and wear out.  It’s through that process that we are prepared for the eternal, the unseen, the room in our Father’s house.  Our belief in that eternal is what causes us to walk by faith and not by sight.  It gives us hope.

No matter the condition of our “tents”, we rejoice and celebrate in our anticipation of dwelling in the kingdom of God with a crown of glory that will not fade away.

Dear Father,
As our outer bodies are weakened by the trials of life, we are thankful for the inner strengthening that draws us closer to you.  We will strive to concentrate on the things which are unseen and eternal.
In Jesus Name, Amen
