John 12:1-11

Submitted by Sis. Ann Sullivan

Then Mary took a whole pint of a very expensive perfume made of pure nard, poured it on Jesus feet, and wiped them with her hair.  The sweet smell of the perfume filled the whole house.  John 12:3

In ministry there is always a cost. In John 12:1-11, Mary anointed Jesus with expensive perfume, which was an act of pure devotion and affection.  The picture she painted of Jesus was one of affectionate faith in Jesus. However, Judas' portrayal of Jesus was one of unbelief. The story of Mary's anointing stands in contrast to the idea of many Christians today.  What matters most is belief in Jesus, and by belief, it means a conscious doctrinal understanding of Jesus.

In your ministry, expect resistance. After Lazarus was raised from the dead, the religious rulers plotted to kill him and destroy the evidence of Jesus’ deity.  These were foolish plans, because Jesus could raise Lazarus again if they killed him.  The leaders couldn't stand the testimony that Lazarus gave about the power of Jesus.  Don't be surprised if a similar experience happens to you. When God is visibly working in your life, expect attacks from Satan, but know that God will be with you. If you are His, every moment of your life is a sermon, bearing witness that Jesus is the Son of God.

Lord, help me to wait upon you and teach me how to sit at your feet and take time to listen to Your Word.
In Jesus name, Amen.
