Philippians 3:17-20

Submitted by Minister Sheila Young

Who are you running with?

There was a time in my life when I was at church every Sunday, did well on my job, treated others the way I thought they deserved to be treated, and spent little to no time studying the Word of God. The crowd I ran with was quite adept at speaking “Christianease.”  I came to the realization that I had not surrendered my life to Jesus. I was saved, however, I had not viewed the Bible as the plumb line for my life.  I lacked a personal relationship with Jesus.  I finally woke up one day and determined it was He I should follow.

Today’s world grows darker with the tick of the clock.  It is of utmost importance we find, surround ourselves with, and become those who live as true followers of Christ.  Many people are living their lives the way they deem best and virtually reject living according to God’s standards. Deception is subtle; many claim to be Christians, but really serve idols. Prayer, Bible study, and hearing the Word are essential to avoiding Satan’s deception.

Take a close look at those with whom you run with. We may indeed find they are on the wrong road- leading to a dead-end street called destruction.

We should set our minds on heavenly things; all else is temporary.

I made a firm decision to follow Jesus and I simply won’t turn back!  I discovered what it means to truly live! Will you join me? It is not too late!

In the movie, “Coming to America”, the king asked a perspective queen, “what do you like?” Her reply was, “whatever you like.” By worldly standards, that is an absurd reply, but when someone asks us our opinion, our thought process and reply should be, “Whatever the Bible says”.

As the song says; “God has spoken, let the church say Amen”.

Father, please help me avoid falling into the trap of following ungodly people. Please surround me with people who live according to your will. Please help me become an example for others to follow as I follow You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen
