You did not receive Tuesday Tidbits from me, on last week, because I forgot that it was Tuesday. I don’t know how I got confused! Pray for your pastor.
New Members: I am pleased to welcome Jamir Flournoy to SMBC. He called the church and requested to become a member. He is 21 years old and he has decided to give his life to Christ.
Free Community Drive-Thru Event: SMBC will host the Douglass Visions Committee “Free Community Drive-Thru Event” on this Saturday, August 22, 2020. The event will be from 9:30AM-11:00AM. on the SMBC parking lot. Minnie’s Food Pantry will provide boxes of free food. 2020 Census information will be provided, as well as Voter Registration information. Douglass Visions is also collecting gently worn, used and new shoes. We are trying to fill 100 bags of shoes. Each bag will hold 25 pairs of shoes. Please clean out your closets and bring those shoes to the church on Saturday. We greatly appreciate your participation in this effort. You do not have to get out of your car. Just drive through and someone will collect the shoes from your car. Shiloh, I am asking us to support this shoe drive in a big way.
Tutoring: I have been gravely concerned about our students’ regression or lapse in learning. Most of our students have not been in a formal classroom in 5 months. I do indeed commend the parents who have worked to help their children with assignments; however, we must admit that most of our children are struggling academically. In order to help our students close the learning gap, Douglass Visions will provide Virtual and In-Person Classes at SMBC’s Youth Church. This tutoring will begin in Mid-September. Social Distancing and Masks are required. The tutoring sessions will be from 6PM-7:30PM. You may sign your child up for tutoring by sending a text to 214-789-4461. You will receive a call or confirmation text.
Cokes and Chips Drive : Beginning next Monday, August 24, 2020, we will begin another water, Cokes and chips drive for Our “Homeless Brothers and Sisters”. With the hot temperatures, they are in need of fluids. The drive will end at 2pm on Friday, August 28, 2020. Please drop off all donations at the church between 9am and 6pm (Monday-Thursday) and 9am-2pm (Friday).
A pastor for all people,
Isiah Joshua, Jr.
